Organized Christmas Decoration Storage

Ah, the holidays—a time of joy, celebration, and stuffing your closets with everything you don’t want guests to see. Now that the festivities are over and the glitter has (mostly) been vacuumed up, it’s time to tackle the aftermath: your holiday storage closets. Yes, we’re looking at you, post-holiday chaos! But fear not, we’ve got the ultimate guide to help you reclaim your closet space and start the New Year fresh, organized, and maybe even a little smug. Behold, our 6-step guide to holiday storage organization.

Step #1 - Embrace the Holiday Storage Chaos

First things first, open your closet doors and take a good, hard look. If you hear an ominous creak or see something teetering on the edge, you’ve reached critical clutter mass. Accept it. Embrace it. It’s time for change.

Pro Tip: Put on your favorite playlist or podcast—you’ll need moral support for what’s coming next.

Step #2 - The Great Holiday (Storage) Purge

Let’s start with the obvious offenders: holiday decor and seasonal clothing.

  • Donate or Toss: If you didn’t wear that ugly sweater this year, it’s time to part ways. Donate gently used items and recycle anything beyond repair.

  • Pack It Up: Store seasonal items like Christmas sweaters, scarves, and decorations in labeled bins or vacuum-sealed bags. Bonus points if you create a “Holiday” section in your storage space.

Pro Tip: Even if your bins are clear, label your bin contents neatly. Before you pack a bin, take a photo of the items set up or laid out neatly, print it, and place the photo on the outside of the bin. It's so much easier to find what you need the next time you decorate.

Step #3 - Sort and Conquer

Divide everything left in your closet into three piles: Keep, Donate, and Trash. Be ruthless here—if it doesn’t make you happy or hasn’t seen daylight since 2019, it’s time to let it go.

  • Keep: Items you actually use, love, and wear regularly.

  • Donate: Gently used items that someone else can benefit from.

  • Trash: Anything stained, ripped, or otherwise unsalvageable.

Pro Tip: Haven’t worn it in a year? It’s probably safe to donate.

Step #4 - Create Zones

Try Now that you’ve pared down, it’s time to organize what’s left. Think of your closet as a mini store and create zones for different categories. Sort zones by color or type or both!

  • Tops

  • Bottoms

  • Shoes

  • Accessories

  • Seasonal Items

Pro Tip: Invest in matching hangers for an instant aesthetic upgrade. Yes, it matters.

Step #5 -  Maximize Your Space

Closet organization is part art, part science. Use these tricks to make the most of your space:

  • Vertical Space: Install hooks or over-the-door organizers for belts, scarves, and bags.

  • Bins and Baskets: Keep smaller items corralled and tidy.

  • Shelf Dividers: Prevent sweater avalanches and keep stacks neat.

Pro Tip: Consider a shoe rack or clear plastic boxes for your footwear.

Step #6 -  Maintenance Mode

Congrats, your closet looks fabulous! Now let’s keep it that way:

  • One In, One Out Rule: For every new item you add, donate or remove one.

  • Seasonal Check-Ins: Reassess your closet at the start of each season.

  • Daily Habits: Take 30 seconds to put items back where they belong. Future you will thank you!

Don’t Forget to Celebrate Your Organization Success!

Take a moment to admire your work. Snap a photo. Post it online. Bask in the glow of a job well done. Who knows, your newfound organizational skills might inspire a friend (or at least make them jealous).

With your post-holiday closet chaos tamed you’re ready to take on the New Year with less stress and more space. And hey, now that your closet is sparkling, maybe it’s time to tackle the pantry. (Don’t worry, we’ll be here for that too.) Still, overwhelmed? Schedule your in-home consultation now!
