Back to School, Back to Chaos? Not this year.

Ah, August. The month when Target looks like it’s been looted by tiny tornadoes and parents are either crying or quietly celebrating in the school supply aisle.

It’s officially back to school season, and while your calendar might be packed with meet the teacher nights and last minute lunchbox drama, your home doesn’t have to be.

Here’s how to wrangle the back to school organization madness and set your home up for an organized and stress free fall (well, lower stress bc we’re not magicians, just professional organizers).

1. Create a Command Center

Designate one place for all the important stuff: calendars, school forms, permission slips, and schedules. Use wall files, dry erase boards, or even a repurposed cabinet near the entryway. This is where “MOM, WHERE’S MY FIELD TRIP FORM?!” goes to die.

2. Launch Pad = Less Morning Mayhem

Set up a launch pad near the door. Add hooks for backpacks, bins for shoes, and a tray for keys and wallets. It's like a tiny airport terminal for your family, except nobody misses the bus.

Pro Tip: Pack bags and lunches the night before. (You’ll hate life less in the morning.)

3. Tame the Closet Chaos

Back-to-school clothes shopping? Great. Now purge the closet. Get rid of the too small, too stained, or “but I only wore it once” items. Organize by category: uniforms, play clothes, socks that actually match.

Need help? That’s literally what we do.

4. Stock the Snack Zone

A designated drawer or bin of grab and go snacks = fewer “I’m STARVING” meltdowns before dinner. Use clear containers and label everything like the Type-A Parent you always knew you had inside you.

(Also applies to adults. We see you, 3PM hanger.)

5. Reset the Evening Routine

Summer bedtime? It’s time to bring back structure. Create an evening checklist for your kids (and let’s be honest it's for you too.)

  • Pack lunch (but only the stuff that won't get soggy or gross)

  • Get backpacks ready for the next day

  • Pick out clothes

  • Charge devices

  • Brush teeth, Jammies, etc.

  • Story time or reading for older kids

  • Lights out

Laminate it if you're feeling extra. We won’t judge.

6. Homework Happens - Be Ready

Set up a dedicated homework zone with supplies (pens, pencils, paper, calculator, maybe a stress ball or two). Avoid high traffic areas that lead to distractions.
